日本建築の空間構成の特徴であるレイヤー状の空間、雁行型の空間体験、遠景をも取り込む身体空間をテーマに提案した。訪れた人々は、遠く東山と鴨川を借景としながら、エントランス側の低いスケール/モダンな空間から徐々にスケールが拡張/日本の伝統的な空間へ移動していき、最終的に東山へと身体を拡張させる。 １/10の緩やかな屋根勾配も東山に向かい2/10、3/10と伝統的な京都の町家の屋根勾配へと変化させることで建物外観も山あいに似合う景観としている。 東山に向かい高く造成した造園と対照的に、温泉に向かう動線は低く構成することで、鴨川というもう一つの京都への旅を予感させる。 山と川。伝統的な京都の街並みの考え方にヒントを得ている。
